The trailer for the violence-laden upcoming movie Gangster Squad has been pulled from theaters in the wake of Friday’s shocking mass shooting at a showing of The Dark Knight Rises in Colorado.

As Gossip Cop previously reported, Gangster Squad is based on the true story of Los Angeles mobster Mickey Cohen, played by Sean Penn, who ruthlessly fights back as cops attempt to take him down.

In a tragic — and horrifying — coincidence, one of the gun-heavy scenes featured in the film’s trailer showcases several shooters firing into a movie theater audience as chaos and panic ensue.

Warner Bros. confirmed Friday afternoon that it has now pulled the trailer from theaters, though it’s unclear whether the scene will remain in the movie, which is set to be released on September 7.

Watch the trailer below (the controversial scene begins at the 2-minute mark), and tell us if you think it should be pulled.
