Gabby Douglas Wins Gold in All-Around Gymnastics at Olympics (VIDEO)

SPOILER

Having already won gold in the team finals of women’s gymnastics, Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman vied on Thursday for medals in the all-around competition.

The two young Americans’ biggest competition were Russia’s frontrunners Aliya Mustafina and Victoria Komova.

Ultimately, it came down to the final routines.

SPOILER

With a strong performance on the uneven bars, balance beam and on the floor exercise mat, 16-year-old Douglas outscored her rivals to take home the gold.

She became the fourth U.S. female gymnast to nab the all-around gold, following such household names as Mary Lou Retton, Shannon Miller and Nastia Liukin.

Raisman, however, faltered on the balance beam, making way for Russia’s Komova to take the silver and Mustafina the bronze.

    No, she isn’t.

Look at the official Olympic Games site, there only three medals and three names, Raisman is not one of them. She was ok, but the artistry of Mustafina was of a higher quality.

Congrats Gabby, you made us proud.

    She lost a tie-breaker…

Uh, GC, Shannon Miller never brought home an all-around gold. It was silver. And she barely lost the gold to Gutsu (and wrongfully so, because her last vaults were flawless and the Soviet Union lied to get Gutsu in the competition). Carly Patterson brought home gold in 2004, where is her name? She was the very first All-Around US gold medalist in gymnastics in a fully attended Olympic Games.

Aly Raisman tied for third with Aliya Mustafina of Russia, but due to FIG tiebreaker rules, Mustafina gets the medal. Which sucks because Aly deserved it, and I hate that you can’t tie in such a case. Gymnastics is too political and all Europeans get scored higher than Americans because judges prefer their body types.

Gabby has made us all so very proud. To be 16 and break a record like this is absolutely fascinating! She is an inspiration to everyone for excelling in all events she participated in. Her excellence and athleticism has served as great conversation with my coworkers at Dish. I’ve been following all of her performances by way of my phone using the Dish Remote Access app. This app allows me to watch live and recorded shows and also set up DVR timers all on my phone. I love the convenience and I never miss an event.
