Furious 7 Wins Box Office Race Again In Third Lap, Beats Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2
Furious 7 is still blazing across the top of the box office, three weeks into the release of the latest sequel in the star-studded franchise about fast cars doing dangerous things. The movie earned $29.1 million to hold onto the #1 spot, beating the new Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, opened at number two with $24 million.
The horror movie Unfriended took in $16 million for third place. Home, featuring the voices of Rihanna and Jim Parsons, scored $10.3 million and the #4 spot. The Longest Ride brought in $6.9 million for a fifth place finish.
The race became a little more crowded after that, with Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart’s Get Hard taking in $4.8 million, while the new nature movie Monkey Kingdom debuted in seventh place with $4.7 million. At $4.6 million, the Helen Mirren drama Woman in Gold was right behind in the #8 spot.
Two more holdover films were bunched together to round out the Top 10. The dystopian action-adventure Insurgent finished ninth with receipts of $4.2 million, and the fairy tale Cinderella totaled $3.9 million for the last slot. With few new films opening next week, expect Furious 7 to continue its reign until a little movie called The Avengers: Age of Ultron opens on May 1. What did you see this weekend?
