WATCH: Freddie Combs, 540 Pounds, Shocks & Amazes Judges on X Factor

Freddie Combs shocked the judges with his obesity on Thursday’s “X Factor” — and then shocked them again with his unbelievable voice.

The minister, who said he previously weighed 920 pounds and is now down to 540, sang “Wind Beneath My Wings” while bound to his wheelchair.

“I found your voice amazingly shocking,” Britney Spears told him afterward.

Demi Lovato told Combs he “touched” her when he sang, noting, “You really do have a strong, beautiful voice.”

Simon Cowell was impressed, too, but unwilling to move forward unless Combs committed to a more healthy lifestyle.

“When I heard you sing, I had a vision in my mind of you standing, singing that song, healthy, happy, and maybe you need some inspiration to help you to the next stage,” he told Combs.

The contestant agreed to do his part, and found another supporter in L.A. Reid, who called his voice “heavenly.”

“If you stand, I’m going to stand right by you,” Reid told him.

I am sorry but I do not think he was that great of a singer. I mean he was okay? But half of the people they are saying yes to are not that good or talented in my opinion. Like the little twelve year old girl who sang “Tomorrow” omg, she should try her luck on Broadway but not a five million dollar contract as a person who has the X Factor. It is all hype and all BS. I am so confused why they think some of these people have it and they really don’t. There were some with great talent but a lot are just mediocre at best.

Freddie does have a great inspirational story but I just didn’t think he was that great of a singer. I am happy he made it to the next round though since it had to take a lot of courage for him to come out and audition. Some of my officemates at DISH are already excited to see his journey to get healthy and sing this season. I’m sad the auditions are over but it will be fun to see what happens in boot camp next week. I’m busy with class at night so I’ve been catching up on X Factor using Prime Time Anytime on my Hopper DVR. It automatically records all the prime time shows on the four major networks for me. Overall I think Lauren was the best singer last night and she should be getting more attention.

Freddie Combs has appeared on television before. I found him to be arrogant, verbally and emotionally abusive to his wife. He is extremely demanding which is difficult to understand from someone who literally depends on his wife if he wants to even go to the bathroom. She lets him run her ragged and he treated her like a slave as he demanded custom made clothing from her all the while demanding food at regular intervals. I was rather disgusted. The documentary i watched years ago did not give me a good impression of him.
I truly hope he is a changed person and that he is more apreciative of his wife and treats her with more respect. Best of luck to them both.

How can someone who calls himself a minister show the kind of lack of self-restraint that leads to looking like that? He must be downing a pizza every half hour of his waking day (and waking up throughout the night for snacks). Gluttony.
