Fox News To Lindsay Lohan: You ARE A Cocaine Addict!
Fox News is firing back at Lindsay Lohan, after the actress sued the network earlier this year for defamation.
Lohan, along with her mom Dina, filed a lawsuit nearly a year after Sean Hannity and commentator Michelle Fields, made remarks about the pair doing cocaine together. During a February 2014 show, which took place two days after Philip Seymour Hoffman died of a drug overdose, Hannity and Fields speculated about which celebrity might next succumb to addiction and join the “obituary list.” Fields said on the live program, “Lindsay Lohan’s mom is doing cocaine with her.”
The Lohans claimed the comment was untrue, “totally irresponsible,” “malicious innuendo” that “smeared” them, leading them to sue. At the time, Fox News vowed to “defend this case to the fullest,” noting, “We removed the segment from our archives altogether last February and also apologized on-air. At that time, the Lohans did not make any demands for money, and we are surprised they are doing so now.”
Now the channel has filed its official response, which in part hinges on the fact that Lohan is a confirmed drug user. According to TMZ, the legal papers refer to Lohan as an “admitted cocaine user and long-time addict.” Fox News also argues that they and Hannity should not be responsible for a guest’s comments, and furthermore, commentary should be protected by the First Amendment.
Fields’ remark about Dina seemed to stem from an emotional phone call Lohan made to her father Michael in 2012, in which Gossip Cop reported she was recorded saying, “Dad, she’s on cocaine, she’s like touching her neck and s**t.” Two days later, however, Lohan called into “TMZ Live,” and insisted, “My mom does not do cocaine,” before claiming she “lied” to her dad because she was angry at her mom. Gossip Cop will have updates.
