Jennifer Lopez Named World’s Most Powerful Celebrity By Forbes, Beats Oprah

Jennifer Lopez has been tapped the World’s Most Powerful Celebrity, according to Forbes.

The singer and “American Idol” judge, who also has multiple endorsement deals as well as a fragrance and clothing line, earned a whopping $52 million in the last year.

Forbes bases the list on factors such as a celebrity’s income and media visibility, including social media presence.

Lady Gaga, who topped the list in 2011, dropped down to fifth.

She’s behind other media superstars such as Oprah Winfrey (no. 2) and Justin Bieber (no. 3).

    52 million a year isn’t mind blowing please and Jennifer has had her fragrance/clothing lines for over a decade so that’s a non factor. the top celeb in 1995 was Tom Hanks having made more than 70 million in the previous year

    If she’s so powerful why is she doing American idol? She would be making Oscar worthy movies if she has real power. I think Jennifer garner has more power because she’s married to an A list actor/director/producer.

    Powerful by Forbes. What exactly what formula does “Forbes” calculate her powerfulness? I mean by how much sales, popularity, business acumen? How exactly do they figure these things?

    Totally agree with you! I realize they are the celebs who made the most money last year. But money does not necessarily equal power. I’ve heard Oprah lost 300 million on her TV network….and that apparently makes her the second most powerful! JLo has the power to date 25-year-olds, so I guess that makes it obvious why she’s number 1. I actually like a lot of the people on this list, like Justin Bieber…but he is a kid! I just don’t see the “power” in many of the names on this list. Why doesn’t someone take a crack at making a REAL list!

    and define “power”. I’d take “influential” but to say these celebs are “powerful” is ridiculous and hideous.

    Forbes bases the list on factors such as a celebrity’s income and media visibility, including social media presence according to the article. I think the list is accurate in regard to their media visibility and social networking (addiction to twitter), but money-wise they aren’t even in the ballpark of super rich. Jen supposedly has supernatural help from her ‘madrina’ in LA who does santeria. As the saying goes”they sold their souls for fame and riches”
