Vogue Calls FKA Twigs The “Next Style Breakout Star”
FKA Twigs is the “next style breakout star,” says Vogue, calling “the way she dresses and carries herself… every bit as idiosyncratic as her music.” Her stylist best friend Karen Clarkson tells the outlet, “Even if there is a punkness to her, Twigs is naturally chic.”
She’s also becoming very well known, thanks to her skyrocketing career and a relationship with Robert Pattinson. Vogue labels the pair the “new anti-It couple.” Twigs says of the constant paparazzi attention, “Sometimes I really struggle having my picture taken.”
“Work always reflects how your brain is morphing,” she tells the outlet. “And right now is a very morphy time for me.” Indeed. Among the things she’s planning to pick up? New dance moves. “I want to learn to tango,” she says, “but I wouldn’t seek it out — I’ll wait to meet someone off the street who could teach me.”
Twigs recently walked down the runway at the Mugler Ball, and believes she has to immerse herself in worlds like fashion if she intends to incorporate elements into her own work. “You have to give a part of yourself to a particular culture, rather than just borrow [inspiration] from it or enjoy looking cool because you’re there,” she explains. “Everything you reference, you need to give back to it in some way.”
Twigs, who plans to move to New York when her tour wraps, feels she needs to keep defying expectations. “A few years ago I found out that there’s a lot of Gypsy blood on my mother’s side,” she says. “I’m wild in that way — I’ve been brought up to do my own thing.” What do you think about what Twigs has to say?
