‘Final Five’ Gymnasts Talk 2020 Tokyo Olympics On ‘Today’ Show (VIDEO)
The U.S. women’s gymnastics team, nicknamed the “Final Five,” appeared on Tuesday’s “Today” show to discuss the possibility of competing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Watch the interview below!
Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian and Gabby Douglas are back in the states following their record nine-medal win at the Rio Olympics. When the gymnasts were asked on the morning show to reveal who plans on going to the Tokyo Olympics, Biles told her teammates, “Everyone raise their hands. We’re all going again.” Of course, that’s easier said than done, as the members of the 2016 team will have to compete for a spot in the 2020 Olympics. It should also be noted, the International Olympic Committee previously announced the Tokyo gymnasts will only consist of four members, which is the reason the Rio team is dubbed the “Final Five.”
But Biles, who took home a record-breaking four gold medals in Rio, is widely expected to return to defend her title in Tokyo. Raisman and Hernandez are also being pegged as likely 2020 Olympic participants. Also during their morning show appearance, the Olympians spoke about their newfound superstar status, returning to everyday life, why their pizza date with Zac Efron got canceled, and much more.
