Fifty Shades of Grey Announces Kelly Marcel as Screenwriter

Truth rating: 10

(Amazon)

Fifty Shades of Grey is moving closer and closer to the big screen.

Universal Pictures and Focus Features announced on Monday that Kelly Marcel will pen the screenplay for the film adaptation of E L James massively popular “mommy porn” book.

Marcel’s work includes the upcoming Saving Mr. Banks, a movie about Walt Disney’s 20-year pursuit of the film rights to “Mary Poppins.”

She is also the co-creator and executive producer of FOX’s “Terra Nova.”

As Gossip Cop previously reported, The Social Network’s Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti have already signed on to produce the movie.

De Luca said in a statement, “Kelly’s work demonstrates her flawless structural technique and passionate commitment to emotion, humor and depth of character which is particularly visible in the celebrated screenplay for the upcoming Saving Mr. Banks.”

And Brunetti added, “We were all taken with the depth and passion of Kelly’s engagement with the characters and world E L James has created and we knew she was the right person to augment our Fifty Shades family.”

the first book was just awful

I wonder the same thing. How can you make a good movie of this when the books don’t have any substance whatsoever? It would make a great porn movie for us ladies to watch, but a serious movie… not likely.

Let me get this straight, they’re going to take this book and turn it into a money making R rated feature film? Good luck with that.

Just had idea, after they pull that off, they can remake a PG-13 version of Last Tango In Paris staring Justin Bieber and Emma Watson

Great, rape as acceptable pop culture fodder! Fuck I hate today’s world.

  • kt

i dont know how they will do this. there was no real story to it. just a lot of sex scenes. so it might turn out to be a porno with talking. i wish them luck.

Excuse me but there was no rape in this book. Have you read it? And tho perhaps they aren’t well written there is a story.

the story was sooooooo unrealistic in a reality based book – that it will flop- the whole book is about his control over sex and her Victimization of such – I can’t stand this male orientated book – what the hell was this women author thinking about!

I guess we’ll see what this screenwriter can do with the story to release it on film with an R rating.

ita. i stopped reading on the first part of the 3rd book. i was intrigued with all the buzz. however, on the 2nd book i got bored and realized that it is a book for a those who wanted to be get laid, just for the heck of it. this is the type of book for those who doesn’t want to stimulate their brains. very predictable. sorry, jmho.

  • kaloalo

i see this film being successful only if the screenwriter changes lots of stuff

i feel sorry for her though – she actually has to read that horrible book and dissect it and turn it into a script
