Fifty Shades of Grey Brings Social Network Producers On Board for Movie Adaptation

Fifty Shades of Grey is moving closer and closer to the big screen.

On Tuesday, it was announced that Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti, who produced The Social Network, will re-team to bring the bestselling “mommy porn” novel to cinematic life.

The film is being made for Universal, which purchased the rights to E L James’ trilogy back in March.

“At its core, Fifty Shades of Grey is a complex love story, requiring a delicate and sophisticated hand to bring it to the big screen,” said the studio in a statement. “Mike and Dana’s credits more than exemplify what we need in creative partners, and we’re glad to have them as part of our team.”

James herself is also pleased with the decision.

The author says she’s “thrilled that Mike has joined Team Fifty. He brings a passion for and in-depth understanding of the characters and story and a wealth of experience in making quality films.

Fifty Shades centers on the intense, dominant-submissive erotic relationship between a college student named Anastasia Steele and young billionaire Christian Grey.

Rumors about casting (Ian Somerhalder, Alexander Skarsgard, etc.) have been flying for months, but no one has yet been picked to fill the lead roles.

But with producers in place, those decisions will now start to happen.

    they are going to have to cut a lot of the scenes from the book. there is no way they can keep them, and still get an r rating. this would have been better for hbo. james is stuck on herself, and i hope karma comes to back to bite her. also, universal is probably one of the worst studios. they pass on great films, and greenlight crap. it’s no wonder fox and wb are beating them at every turn.

    LOL so porn is now being shown in theater… possibly in a year or two. I did read the book, so its going to be interesting if it becomes a movie. Fight and make up sex is all I can see with the first one. The last two books, Dark and Freed… there’s also a lot of fight and make up sex but there is a little drama…

    Ian is definitely not too old. He’s within the range and he is so perfect for the part it’s not even funny. The man is drop dead beautiful,has the dangerous look in his eyes,the persona,he just has it all. If they pick him I won’t even care if the small details aren’t exactly the same as the book. He is who I imagined as Christian while I read the trilogy. Ana,I’m flexible on,. I don’t know who should play her but Ian is absolutely who I want for Christian. Please God in heaven give him the part!!!

    Team ALEXANDER!! Think of him in True Blood, already does the sexy scenes. I believe the other actors haven’t crossed that line yet! I can’t wait to see the rating on this movie, going to be interesting or else cut to shreds!

    This book is not well-written and why anyone would choose to make a movie out of it is absolutely beyond my comprehension…it’s all money these days…what about those of us who can actually write and DESPERATELY want to see our books published? What do we do? Get pushed aside in favor of terribly-written “erotica” that’s not even erotic?
