Harry Potter Spinoff ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ Getting Three Movies
J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is being turned into not just one movie, but three.
As Gossip Cop previously reported, Rowling announced last fall she was adapting the “textbook” covering the magical creatures in the Harry Potter universe into a film version.
The New York Times now reports that “three megamovies are planned.”
The adaptations — taking place about 70 years before the Potter films, and not considered prequels or sequels — will still follow the life of Newt Scamander, the book’s “author.”
Rowling credits Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara for sparking the new movie series.
“When I say he made Fantastic Beasts happen, it isn’t P.R.-speak but the literal truth,” she tells the Times. “We had one dinner, a follow-up telephone call, and then I got out the rough draft that I’d thought was going to be an interesting bit of memorabilia for my kids and started rewriting!”
