Fans React: “The Last Jedi” Title Of “Star Wars: Episode VIII”
Fans are reacting to the just-announced title of Star Wars: Episode VIII. It will be called The Last Jedi. See reaction tweets below!
Disney revealed the big news in a brief statement released Monday morning. “We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy. In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga: STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI,” the company said.
The film is slated to hit theaters on December 15, but no plot details have been confirmed. All that’s known is that Rian Johnson both wrote and directed the installment, with The Force Awakens helmer J.J. Abrams among the producers. Carrie Fisher completed shooting her scenes prior to her untimely death last month.
Now this fairly big nugget of information has prompted quite the response from fans on social media. An excited Twitter user with the handle @Jedi_RP wrote, “Omg Star wars episode 8: the last jedi! I can’t wait for the first trailer.”
@Indigo_Jedi tweeted to Johnson, “IT BETTER BE GOOD RIAN <3.” @BrushYourTeeth noted, “Love how Ep.VII and Ep.VIII titles make a sentence: The Force awakens the last Jedi..” @StarWarsNewsNet commented, “Jedi is both singular and plural. So this title could have multiple meanings. That makes it even more intriguing. And that red color…”
“Who is the last jedi? is Rey the last jedi? but the plural for jedi is also jedi so this can refer to more than one jedi,” observed @wakandaho. Meanwhile, @reysolorgana predicted, “listen: The Last Jedi Is Finn, The Boy, The Force Sensitive Ex-Stormtrooper. We All Know This. Finn. The Hero. That Boy, Finn.” And @sophietalia wondered, “the last jedi. at last a name! but is this one of those he’s not the last cause he had a kid and then the avatar opens a portal…”
Of course, others took a more light-hearted approach to the announcement. @jobeeart quipped, “cant believe they’re already on the last jedi when the force JUST awakened.” Cracked @_tyrfing, “Episode 6: Return of the Jedi Episode 8: The Last Jedi DAMN DUDE THE JEDI DON’T HAVE MUCH STAYING POWER DO THEY.”
@pelvislives also wrote, “Was curious if anyone else thinks maybe the titles of the new trilogy will tell a story. The force awakens The last Jedi and he is annoyed.” @Clovis_93 even complained, “Star Wars: the Last Jedi is the most generic title they could come up with.”
Among celebrities, Star Trek star and Fisher friend William Shatner exclaimed, “Finally!” And Josh Gad posted, “May be my favorite title since The Empire Strikes Back because of how loaded it is. One? Multiple? The end? Tickets now. NOW!!!”
