Fans React: Jimmy Kimmel To Host 2017 Oscars
Jimmy Kimmel will host the 2017 Oscars, it was announced Monday, and now fans are reacting to the big news on Twitter. See below what people are tweeting about the future Academy Awards host!
The upcoming ceremony will mark the first time the talk show host is emceeing the Oscars, but he’s hosted the Emmys twice, including this year’s broadcast. In reference to his previous gig, one person wrote, “Kimmel is the best possible choice after kicking ass hosting the Emmy’s earlier this year. Maybe I’ll actually watch The Oscars for once.” Another user said, “Jimmy Kimmel is the perfect choice for the Oscars, this makes me so excited!!!” And one fan expressed, “Jimmy Kimmel is great at hosting his own show, dinners, parties, bake sales — he’s going to crush it at the Oscars.”
There were, however, a couple of users underwhelmed by the choice. “I’m fine with Kimmel hosting the Oscars, but I was hoping for Louis C.K. or Kevin Hart. Maybe next year,” tweeted one person. Meanwhile, one user said, “I like Kimmel but he is a safe choice,” and another noted, “Surprisingly few late-nite TV personalities hosted the Oscars in recent decades, and those that have (Letterman, Stewart) had shaky results.”
In reference to a recurring “Jimmy Kimmel Live” bit, one user offered, “I can’t wait for Jimmy Kimmel to joke about Matt Damon’s upcoming nomination for Manchester By The Sea,” a movie with Oscar buzz that the actor produced. Another person similarly wrote, “With @jimmykimmel hosting the #Oscars, do we get the mandatory Matt Damon joke/appearance during the monologue or during a later skit?”
Meanwhile, a couple of fans made not of Kimmel’s impressive career trajectory. “His first year on ABC, they wouldn’t even let him do his Oscar special in his studio across from the Oscars. Now he’s hosting. Good times,” said one user. And another person tweeted, “Crazy seeing Jimmy Kimmel go all the way from hosting The Man Show to hosting the Oscars.” The 89th annual Academy Awards airs February 26 on ABC.
