In an item on the leading men who are candidates to play the highly prized role of Captain America, the folks at AccessHollywood.com get duped.
“One actor who won’t be raising the star-spangled shield,” the site reports, “is Gossip Girl‘s Chace Crawford.”
Cited as the source? None other than “Chace Crawford” himself.
“I am no longer in the run for the role as Captain America,” Crawford supposedly Tweeted. “Best of luck to who they choose for the role.”
Best of luck also to AccessHollywood.com. The site will need plenty of it if it continues to report without checking facts!
A member of Crawford’s management team confirms to Gossip Cop the Twitter account does not belong to the actor.
It’s a FAKE.
Of course, AccessHollywood.com is in good company. Other outlets picked up the same phony tweet.
This isn’t the first time a fake Twitter account has generated bogus “news.” We’re fairly certain mainstream media will be duped again in the future.
So come to Gossip Cop for the real story.
