Empire Spoofed On SNL With New White Character Played By Chris Hemsworth (VIDEO)
“Empire” was spoofed on this weekend’s “Saturday Night Live,” with a fake promo for the series introducing a new white character played by guest host Chris Hemsworth. Watch below!
In the parody, Keenan Thompson portrays Lucious Lyons, the ALS-stricken head of Empire Entertainment, Sasheer Zamata appears as the tough, wise-cracking Cookie, Jay Pharoah is the talented and gay son Jamal, Michael Che is “Drip Drop”-rapping son Hakeem, and Leslie Jones is Porsha, Cookie’s can’t-be-bothered assistant. The faux preview parodies each character’s role on the show, and even recreates some of the series’ most infamous scenes, including Cookie beating son Hakeem with a broom stick.
Hemsworth is introduced as Chip, a new Empire office manager, with “SNL” essentially mocking the series’ lack of white characters. The promo narrator explains, “‘Empire’ has already taken black American by storm. But what about white America? We’ve got you covered!” Hemsworth’s Chip is earnest, happy-go-lucky, and rather by the book, making him the odd man out among the Empire crew. “Take a dip, Chip!” Cookie yells after throwing a can at him.
He very obviously does not fit in, but with a “white dude in Khakis,” the narrator declares, “‘Empire’ — now with something for everyone!” The real “Empire” has its first season finale next week, and Gossip Cop will have full coverage. Check out the “SNL” spoof below, and tell us what you think!
