The In Memoriam at Sunday’s 2016 Emmys featured a stunning performance from Tori Kelly. Watch below.
The annual In Memoriam segment at the Emmy Awards pays tribute to members of the Television Academy and other beloved TV and entertainment professionals who have died over the last year. The montage of those we’ve lost is usually one of the most stirring portions of the ceremony. But this year’s was even more moving, thanks to Kelly’s heartfelt performance.
The singer, who was nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy earlier this year, sang “Hallelujah.” Her involvement in the Emmys was only announced just a few days ago. Kelly tweeted, “honored to perform at the #Emmys this sunday 9/18. tune in at 7est/4pst on abc @televisionacad.” It marks the star’s first time attending the awards.
As Kelly performed, the screen also featured the faces of those being remembered. Among those showcased were Alan Rickman, Abe Vigoda, Larry Drake, Ken Howard, Garry Shandling, Robert Loggia, Jackie Collins, Jon Polito, Jack Larson, Patty Duke, Doris Roberts, Alan Young, Steven Hill, Al Molinaro, Wayne Rogers, and George Martin. The tribute also included David Canary, Merle Haggard, George Kennedy, John Saunders, Morley Safer, Anton Yelchin, Gene Wilder, Fred Thompson, Glenn Frey, Dan Haggerty, Muhammad Ali, Natalie Cole, Prince, and David Bowie, among others.
The In Memoriam segment was introduced by Henry Winkler, who paid tribute to Garry Marshall. Check out the full video below.
