Emmy Rossum: Donald Trump Supporters Sent Me Anti-Semitic, Holocaust-Related Tweets
Emmy Rossum claims she was sent a series of anti-Semitic tweets that invoked the Holocaust from supporters of President-elect Donald Trump. The “Shameless” star took to Twitter on Sunday morning to denounce the hateful messages.
On Wednesday morning, hours after the election results declared Trump the new President, Rossum sent off a series of tweets in which she noted, “I’m sad,” and “It’s hard to understand how so many people saw something so differently than you did. It feels personal to so many.” She then went on to explain, “I am a woman. I am Jewish. I am marrying an Arab American. My sister in law is handicapped. I’m a victim of sexual violence. It’s personal.”
That last tweet seemingly resulted in the actress, who’s engaged to director Sam Esmail, receiving a number of anti-Semitic tweets. Rossum wrote on Sunday, “Trump supporters are sending me messages threatening to send me & my ‘ilk’ to the gas chambers & writing hashtags like ‘#sieg hiel’. NOT OK.” She then related in a second tweet that she received other messages on Twitter that alluded to Nazi concentration camps, where 6 million Jews died. Rossum expressed, “Telling anyone to ‘get ready for the trains’ in reference to WWII is disgusting & offensive.Reporting you to twitter is not enough.Back off.”
Gossip Cop has reached out to Rossum’s rep to see whether the individuals specifically identified themselves as Trump supporters and whether the actress filed a complaint with Twitter. We have also reached out to Twitter for more information on the offensive tweets and whether any action is being taken against those who sent Rossum the hateful messages.
