Emmy Rossum: Guys “Think I’m Easy” Like My Shameless Character Fiona
Emmy Rossum opens up in the October issue of Cosmopolitan about dating, one-night stands, and the dangers of texting.
The actress, who plays Fiona Gallagher on the hit Showtime series “Shameless,” tells the magazine that guys often assume she as promiscuous as her television character.
“I feel like on the first date with a guy he’ll think I’m easy (like Fiona), and that’s so disconcerting,” says Rossum. “It’s not like I haven’t had sex on the first date, but usually that ended up in a two year relationship.”
She explains that her current boyfriend Sam Esmail is exactly her type.
“I don’t gravitate to the jock; it’s the nerdy guy in the corner. I’m dating a writer now,” Rossum says of Esmail, who wrote and directed her film Comet.
The You’re Not You stars notes, “Writers are sexy.”
Rossum admits that she avoids texting other guys because of her past experiences.
“I once found a guy I was dating dirty-texting another woman and I completely lost my sh*t,” she says. “Texting is so dangerous!”
Rossum adds, “I won’t even give guys my number, because I know me. We’ll start texting and he’ll start emoticon-ing and I’ll start emoticon-ing, and soon we have a big mess. I’m a very flirty person in general.”
Once married to a music executive from 2008 to 2010, the actress says she hopes to wed again now that she has a better understanding of that level of commitment.
“I was so young,” she recalls of her first marriage. “I don’t think I knew what marriage meant.”
Rossum notes, “My parents were never married, and I was teased in school and called a bastard. So the idea of marriage as safety forever was idealized in my head, and we rushed into it.”
