Emma Watson: People Asked If I Was a Lesbian After Cutting Off My Hair

Emma Watson’s decision to cut off her long locks after she finished filming the final Harry Potter movies sparked some peculiar responses.

The actress reveals in a new interview that her pixie hairdo caused many to speculate that she was making a statement about her sexuality.

“I had journalists asking me if this meant I was coming out, if I was a lesbian now,” Watson tells The Independent.

She adds, “That haircut did make me realize how subjective everyone’s opinion is. Some people were crazy for it and some people just thought I’d lost my s**t.”

The experience ended up teaching Watson a valuable lesson.

“All I can do is follow my instincts,” she says, “because I’ll never please everyone.”
