Emma Watson “In Talks” To Play Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey?

Although E L James has said that the Fifty Shades of Grey movie is still a long way from casting, outlets continue to carelessly throw names into the ring.

The latest rumor comes from the New York Daily News, which reports that “Emma Watson is in talks to take on the role of Anastasia Steel [sic] in the movie adaptation of Fifty Shades Of Grey.”

According to the paper, “The actress is the hot favorite to be chosen by producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti.”

The Daily News further notes, “The 22-year-old is said to have the right looks for the part, combining a degree of innocence with the acting skills to portray the young graduate who gets swept into a world of sado-masochistic sex with a kinky billionaire, Christian Grey.”

However, while it might be true that Watson has what it takes to play Anatastia Steele, we seriously doubt the accuracy of a report that doesn’t even spell the character’s name correctly.

In any case: It’s NOT true.

Gossip Cop reached out to a rep for Watson, who tells us exclusively that there is “no truth” to the casting rumor.

    I think Emma Watson is a very good actress but taking a role like this would not be a good career move. This movie will be softcore-p0rn” at best and even worse depending on the director and Emma doesn’t need that type of role.

    She’s just the right age, Ana is in her early twenties in the book and the movie won’t be ready till 2014. I like the idea as long as she gets blue contacts. Still I think Kaya Scodelario and Amanda Seyfred would fit the part better. Matt Bomer for Christian Please.

    Reread the sentence about the character’s name being misspelled-the one that begins with “However”. The character’s name is misspelled by GossipCop too!
