Was Emma Watson really bullied out of Brown University? Last month, the actress announced she’d be taking a break from her studies to have time for professional commitments.

But outlets like the New York Daily News are spreading a rumor that harassment from other students may have forced Watson from school; specifically, that the Harry Potter star’s “brainy ways may have led to her classmates’ heckling.” According to a so-called “insider” for the paper, Watson would be mocked with incessant and snide Harry Potter references when she participated in class.

There were also reports of Watson being heckled while attending a Brown-Harvard football game and otherwise being harassed about her fame. So did her peers’ comments actually chase Watson from college? Not at all.

Gossip Cop looked into the story, and a rep for Watson assures us it’s completely false. “There isn’t a grain of truth in it,” we’re told by the actress’s spokesperson. Gossip Cop is further assured that Watson “absolutely loved her time at Brown and made lots of great friends,” but is leaving because she’s decided “to pursue a different course which sadly Brown does not offer.” Watson will transfer to a new school for the fall, but it certainly isn’t due to bullying.
