WATCH: 15-Year-Old Emily Brooke’s Carrie Underwood Cover “Blows Away” Judges On American Idol Premiere
“American Idol” had its season 14 premiere on Wednesday, with Emily Brooke making a solid first impression by covering one of the show’s most successful winners of all time, Carrie Underwood. Watch the video below!
The auditions showcase kicked off in Nashville, and required some extra effort from Brooke. When the 15-year-old, who lives in West Palm Beach, Florida, found out the closest audition city would be in Tennessee, she was determined to earn enough money for travel expenses. “Every penny went toward this trip,” she revealed, with Brooke’s mom telling the camera, “I don’t know many 15-year-old kids who will give up all their weekends to pursue whatever they want to do.”
Brooke’s perseverance paid off. The teen sang Underwood’s hit “Blown Away” so well that Jennifer Lopez was actually visibly relieved. “I always get worried with the Carrie Underwood songs. They’re hard to sing,” explained the judge before telling the contestant, “You executed it beautifully.” Keith Urban thought so, too. “I think there’s a lot of raw talent that’s really, really good in there.” And Harry Connick, Jr., who said he “loved it,” was eager to see how Brooke would “line up with other competitors.”
The “American Idol” premiere continues on Wednesday, with more auditions from Nashville, and those who tried out when the “Idol” bus tour made stops across the country. Brooke has one of the first golden tickets to Hollywood, but will she survive beyond that? Check out the video below, and tell us what you think!
