Emily Ann Roberts proved she’s the country artist to beat on “The Voice” on Monday. Check out the video below!
It’s no secret that many viewers of “The Voice,” not to mention coach Blake Shelton, favor country artists. With winners like Danielle Bradbery and Craig Wayne Boyd, each season seems to have at least one country singer who really shines. And for season 9, that’s Roberts.
The aspiring star just made it into the iTunes Top 10 after last week’s performance, a feat she also accomplished during the Live Playoffs. Now Roberts sought to replicate that success with “She’s Got You,” the Patsy Cline classic, which was also a number one hit by Loretta Lynn. Lynn recorded the song as a tribute to original artist Patsy Cline, and Roberts’ take managed to honor them both.
Afterward, Shelton gave his artist a standing ovation, and host Carson Daly even had to yell at him to finally sit down. Before Roberts’ coach had his turn to speak, Pharrell had the chance to offer his own praise. “I don’t want to sound generic, but honestly, that was fantastic. It really was,” he said, adding, “It’s unbelievable you’re 17 years old and you sing with such an old soul.”
Adam Levine agreed the performance was “amazing,” and noted, “I think what’s really cool to see is you were a good singer when you started the show. And now you’re a phenomenal singer.” He went on to confess, “I don’t like to give Blake any compliments at all, but unfortunately I’m forced to do that. At least it’s for a good reason.”
When Shelton had his turn, he admitted, “I can’t stop smiling right now. My heart is pounding right now.” He then revealed, “I’ve never had a better collaborator in nine seasons of doing this show than working with Emily Ann. To be 17, she’s so smart and knows who she is an artist.”
And to Roberts directly, the country superstar said, “You’ve had some incredible performances — that was your best performance so far this season.” Watch below!
