Elton John NOT Retiring, Despite Report
Elton John is NOT retiring, despite a report. Gossip Cop can help set the record straight.
On Friday night, the Daily Mail blared in a headline, “Slimline Sir Elton ready to announce retirement: Singer set to call time on his 50-year career to spend more time with his family.” The accompanying story asserted, “Sir Elton John is set to hang up the microphone for good after telling friends he will announce his retirement next year.” The British paper went on to allege, “The singer, who seems to have slimmed down considerably in the past few months, is planning to call time on his stellar career in March.”
“Elton has seen and done it all, and has nothing left to prove,” a so-called “friend” was quoted as saying. The tabloid further claimed, “He originally planned to retire in 2018 and is understood to have brought the date forward after disappointing recent chart performances, and so he can spend more time with his young family. He is also keen to do more to raise funds for his charitable Elton John Aids Foundation.”
But it seems John is multitasking quite fine, and has no intention of giving up his music career. In response to the allegations, the music icon posted on Instagram Saturday, “Don’t believe what you read in the papers today. There is no truth to the rumours that I am planning to retire. In fact, I am looking forward to celebrating 50 years of collaborating with my partner-in-song, Bernie Taupin, next year.” If and when John does decide to hang it up, expect the news to come from the superstar himself.
