‘SNL’ Producers Convincing Ellen DeGeneres To Host By Offering Portia de Rossi Cameo?
“Saturday Night Live” producers are NOT trying to convince Ellen DeGeneres to host the show by allowing Portia de Rossi to appear alongside her, despite a phony tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively bust this claim. We’re told it’s “nonsense.”
DeGeneres hasn’t hosted the late-night sketch show since 2001, and according to OK!, producers are willing to sweeten the deal to get her to return this season. A so-called “insider” tells the tabloid that executives offered to let DeGeneres’ wife make a cameo, if she agrees to host. “[Portia’s] pushing for Ellen to do it, and Ellen will do anything to boost Portia’s career,” says the “source.”
The tabloid then goes on to make the laughably false claim that “SNL” producers have banned cast member Kate McKinnon from impersonating DeGeneres on the show for fear of offending the talk show host. The magazine’s “insider” says, “Everyone has strict instructions to be kind to Ellen until they’ve secured a deal with her.”
Only, the magazine has terrible timing, because on the same day that this phony story was published, McKinnon made an appearance on “Ellen,” in character as DeGeneres. The talk show host is clearly very amused and flattered by the impersonation.
Regardless, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to DeGeneres, who assures us the tabloid’s claim about “SNL” producers trying to sway her to host by allowing de Rossi to appear is complete “nonsense.” In fact, OK! is the same tabloid Gossip Cop has corrected on numerous occasions for creating false breakup rumors about the couple. The tabloid’s “SNL” tale is similarly unreliable.
