Ellen DeGeneres And Portia De Rossi Did NOT Bail On Animal Rights Event
Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi did not bail on an animal rights fundraiser on Sunday nor did they have a fight about going to the event, despite a published report that has been picked up widely. “It’s a complete fabrication, a lie,” the couple’s attorney Marty Singer tells Gossip Cop.
The wholly inaccurate story first appeared in the New York Post under the headline, “Ellen, Portia cancel appearance after ‘epic’ fight.” The tabloid goes on to claim the two were en route to the Saving SPOT! benefit in Santa Monica when they got into a fight and “turned around without attending the event, even though they were listed and pictured on the invitation as hosts.”
But Gossip Cop has learned they never intended to go to the event, something they apprised organizers of six months before, certainly never agreed to host it, and should never have been listed by the dog rescue charity as hosts of the fundraiser or pictured in any of the marketing materials for the benefit.
In a statement furnished to Gossip Cop, the couple, who hosted the fundraiser in 2013, says, “We are happy to lend our names as honorary chairs and the organization was always aware that we would be unable to attend. This is the first time we have seen our images attached to the invite. It was not approved and is misleading.”
It’s unclear where the fictitious fight claim started, but as Gossip Cop has repeatedly reported, despite tabloid claims of strife between the two, DeGeneres and de Rossi are happily together.
