Ellen DeGeneres had “Scandal” actor Guillermo Díaz scare his co-star Katie Lowes when she least expected it during Friday’s Halloween show. Lowes thought she had outsmarted the daytime host after she caught a man sneaking up behind her in the middle of her interview, but DeGeneres had one more trick up her sleeve.

DeGeneres, dressed as George Clooney’s new wife Amal, set the mood by asking Lowes to discuss her horror filmmaking past. “I think they are horrible,” said the actress before adding, “I have gotten to be in some bad ones, really bad. My favorite bad horror movie [is] called Bear, where I ran around being attacked by a man in a bear costume.”

After laughing about her cheesy role in the low-budget horror film, Lowes sensed that something was happening. “I don’t want to get scared today,” she told DeGeneres. “I have seen every one of your Halloween episodes. I am very anxious at the moment.” Lowes was pointing to all of the spots where people have hidden on the set when she a caught a man in a bear costume creeping up behind her. “No!” yelled Lowes. DeGeneres noted, “It’s impossible to scare you.” And just when the actress thought she had done the impossible, eluding a scary situation devised by DeGeneres, her co-star Guillermo Diaz burst out of what looked like a side table, terrifying her. “Guillermo! I didn’t know it was you!” she screamed, before hugging her friend.

But that wasn’t Lowes’ only scare of the week. Before their appearance on the show, DeGeneres had Lowes and Díaz walk through the same haunted house that caused her producer Andy Lassner to pee his pants.
