BREAKING NEWS
Elizabeth Taylor has died.
The two-time Oscar-winning actress passed away at L.A.’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from congestive heart failure.
Her children were at her bedside.
Her son Michael Wilding said in a statement, “My mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humor, and love. Though her loss is devastating to those of us who held her so close and so dear, we will always be inspired by her enduring contribution to our world.”
While she reached the height of her profession, Taylor’s personal life was marked by poor health and bad marriages.
She was married eight times to seven different men, including hotelier Conrad Hilton, Eddie Fisher, Sen. John Warner, and twice to Richard Burton.
Taylor rose to fame as a child actress in National Velvet.
She went on to star in such films as Butterfield 8, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, and Cleopatra for which she became the first actress to be paid $1 million.
In later years, Taylor devoted much of her energies to AIDS research.
Taylor was 79.
Below is a tribute to Taylor, narrated by Paul Newman, whom she co-starred with in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in 1958.
