Elizabeth Edwards has been laid to rest in North Carolina.

The author, activist and wife of former presidential candidate John Edwards died at 61 on December 7 after a long battle with cancer.

Among those delivering eulogies for Edwards was her daughter, Cate Edwards, who recently announced that she is engaged to longtime boyfriend Trevor Upham.

Hundreds of friends, family and political supporters turned out for the ceremony, including John Kerry, who picked John Edwards as his running mate in the 2004 presidential election.

The service was held at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Edenton, NC. It is the same place where John and Elizabeth Edwards mourned their sixteen-year-old son, Wade, after he died in a car accident in 1996.

The couple formally separated in January after three decades of marriage when John Edwards admitted to fathering a child with Rielle Hunter.
