Ed Sheeran ‘SNL’ Performance Of “Shape Of You” – WATCH VIDEO
Ed Sheeran sang “Shape Of You” on this week’s “SNL.” The song is off his upcoming album Divide. See the video below of Sheeran’s performance of “Shape Of You” on “Saturday Night Live.”
This is Sheeran’s second time as the musical guest on “SNL.” He made his debut on the sketch comedy show in 2014 when Seth Rogen hosted the program. At the time, Sheeran first sang his hit “Sing,” followed by a performance of “Don’t.”
The lyric video for “Shape Of You,” which came out a month ago, has been viewed an astounding 242 million times to date. And the music video, which was released a little more than a week ago, has already amassed more than 95 million views. In the music video, Sheeran is seen working out intensely at a boxing gym. Also training at the gym is a beautiful woman, who’s his love interest and is played by actress Jennie Pegouski. The video ends oddly with Sheeran putting on a fake sumo wrestler outfit and getting beaten in the ring by former professional wrestler Yamamotoyama Ryuta.
Interestingly, Sheeran initially was writing the song for Rihanna, but ultimately felt it wasn’t for her and only decided at the last-minute to include on Divide. “Shape Of You” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also charted at three on the U.S. Adult Top 40 chart, four on the U.S. Mainstream Top 40 chart, and 17 on the U.S. Adult Contemporary chart.
