Ed Sheeran Defends Lion Tattoo: If It Was “Clever Phrase In Language I Can’t Speak No One Would’ve Said Anything”
Ed Sheeran is firing back at criticism of his new lion tattoo. See photo right.
As Gossip Cop reported, Sheeran shared a photo of his unfinished artwork on Instagram on Tuesday. The in-progress tat is a huge portrait of a lion’s face, so big that while it sits between the star’s nipples, it extends from the base of his neck down to his rib cage. Sheeran noted that it was only “halfway” done, but that didn’t stop media outlets and social media users from spewing hate.
TMZ, for instance, went with the headline, “X Marks The Spot… Of The Worst Tattoo Ever!” And E! called it a “massive eyesore.” Twitter and Instagram were also flooded with cruel, judgmental comments.
Even Keane singer Tom Chaplin tweeted, “Please tell me this is a prank. Cos if it isn’t, @edsheeran has a really bad picture of a lion on his chest FOREVER.” Sheeran rightfully responded, “I like it and that’s the only opinion that matters.”
But with the backlash still coming in strong, Sheeran decided to really fire back on Wednesday morning. “All this kerfuffle over a tattoo. If it was black and white saying a clever phrase in a language I can’t speak no one would’ve said anything,” he argued.
Sheeran went on to note, “It’s not the first weird tattoo I’ve got and it won’t be the last, but I like all of them.” As Gossip Cop previously noted, the British star has dozens of other tats, mostly on his arms. TELL US: What do you think of Sheeran defending his lion tattoo?
