Dustin Diamond Released From Jail One Month Early
Dustin Diamond was released one month early from Ozaukee County Jail in Wisconsin on Monday, Gossip Cop confirms. Diamond, more commonly known by his “Saved By The Bell” character name “Screech,” was set to be behind bars for four months, but was set free for “good time” for having worked a number of jobs in the jail, a staffer at the jail tells us.
As Gossip Cop previously reported, Diamond was sentenced to four months in jail after stabbing a patron named Casey Smet with a pocketknife in a Port Washington, Wisconsin bar on Christmas Eve 2014. While cleared of the most serious charge, a felony count of recklessly endangering safety, Diamond was convicted of disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed weapon. He faced up to a year in jail, but was sentenced to four months, and is now free after just three.
Diamond initially argued that he was defending himself and girlfriend Amanda Schutz, who he claimed was punched in the face during a barroom brawl. The judge, who sentenced Diamond, was largely unstirred because of Smet’s puncture wound, and told the former child actor the then-four-month stint was because he wanted to “send a message to the community that we’re just not going to live like this.” For his part, at his sentencing Diamond apologized, saying, “I want it to be clear that this situation will be not repeated again.”
