Drake Used As Clue At Scripps National Spelling Bee – WATCH VIDEO
Drake was used as a clue for the word “bacchius” during Thursday’s Scripps National Spelling Bee. The rapper was so humbled by his inclusion in the prestigious competition that he posted the video (below) to his Instagram feed, captioning it, “Mix.”
When contestant Dev Jaiswal was having trouble coming up with the proper spelling for the word, which means a “metrical foot of three short syllables, the first short, the other two long,” he asked one of the judges to use “bacchius” in a sentence. The judge offered Drake’s name as part of his example. The judge said, “Rumor has it that Drake’s next mixtape contains a rap in which every verse begins and ends with a bacchius.”
The judge’s pop culturally savvy sentence worked since the contestant was then able to successfully spell the word. And while Jaiswal was able to nail “bacchius,” he wasn’t so lucky with the word “iridocyclitis,” which his competitors Gokul Venkatachalam and Vanya Shivashankar were able to spell, resulting in the two winning the spelling bee competition in a tie.
