As Gossip Cop reported, Dr. Strange is yet another Marvel comic book adaptation, this one starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role. The mythological tale drew in moviegoers when it opened in theaters last week, and the flick is still filling seats. For its second weekend, Dr. Strange brought in $43 million, a less than 50 percent drop from its debut.
Also still performing well was Trolls. The family-friendly film was once again a shoo-in for the number two spot, this time with $35 million. The good news continued with Arrival, the alien epic starring Amy Adams, which arrived on the list with a better-than-expected opening of $24 million. That was enough to score third place.
Almost Christmas, a new holiday film, also did better than projections. It debuted in fourth with $15.6 million. Mel Gibson’s war drama, Hacksaw Ridge, took fifth place with $10.8 million in ticket sales.
Rounding out the Top 10 were The Accountant at number six with box office receipts of $4.6 million. A Madea Halloween secured eighth place with $3.6 million, while Jack Reacher: Never Go Back came in with ninth $3.3 million. And just making it into the Top 10 was Inferno. It earned $3.3 million.
