Dr. Luke Being Dropped By Sony?
Dr. Luke will reportedly be dropped by Sony Music. The headline-making producer, who is embroiled in a legal battle with Kesha over sexual abuse allegations, is supposedly going to be dumped by his label a year before his contract is set to expire because he’s become a “public relations headache.”
While a New York judge recently sided with Sony, and refused to release Kesha from her contract with Dr. Luke, the label is supposedly worried how her lawsuit will affect its relationships with other artists. “Kesha has no case in regards to her contract but [Sony Music] can’t afford the Adeles of the world out in the streets calling the label unsupportive,” a source tells TheWrap. “The fact that this hasn’t already been taken care of with Luke is confusing, especially for people in the building,” adds the unnamed source.
On Wednesday, Lady Gaga, who has been an outspoken Kesha supporter, weighed in on the report. “Do the right thing @sony #PeopleOverProfit,” she wrote on Twitter. A rep for Sony Music has not responded to Gossip Cop’s request for a comment. Meanwhile, Dr. Luke’s attoney says, “This is not true. Luke has an excellent relationship with Sony. His representatives are in regular contact with executives at the highest levels at Sony and this has never come up.”
