Dr. Dre Under Fire for Fox Fur Headphones
2:22 pm, January 7th, 2012
Animal rights group PETA is upset with Dr. Dre and Oscar de la Renta over a pair of limited edition fox fur headphones.
The special “Beats by Dre” headphones – on sale for a cool $695 through De La Renta’s website – deliver “rich, full sound from a portable and stylish unit.”
But they’re also “covered” in “luxe silver fox,” and PETA is not pleased.
In a letter obtained by Global Grind, organization official Michelle Cho urges Dr. Dre “to keep fur and exotic-animal skins out of your Beats by Dre designs.”
“With so many fashionable, cruelty-free materials available these days, we hope that you will keep animals in mind and choose not to use fur or exotic skins in your collection,” continues the letter.
Cho adds, “You have a tremendous amount of influence on young people – won’t you please consider using your platform to advocate kindness toward animals?”
There’s been no response yet from the rapper-enterpreneur.
