“Don’t Breathe” Wins Labor Day Weekend Box Office

As Gossip Cop has reported, Don’t Breathe is a new horror-thriller film that opened last weekend. It over-performed in its debut, earning more than twice what it cost to make the flick. Now in its second weekend, the movie has dropped less than 50 percent, but it still hung onto the number one spot with $15.7 million for Friday through Sunday.
Meanwhile, Suicide Squad took second place with $10 million, just crossing the $300 million-total mark in five weeks. Coming in third was Pete’s Dragon, which earned $6.5 million. With $6.4 million in ticket sales, Kubo And The Two Strings secured fourth place, and in fifth was Sausage Party with a box office haul of $5.3 million.
Rounding out the Top 10 were The Light Between Oceans in sixth with $4.9 million and Bad Moms in seventh with $4.8 million. War Dogs nabbed eighth with $4.7 million, and Hell Or High Water finished in ninth with $4.5 million. Just making it into the Top 10 in the last spot on Labor Weekend was Mechanic: Resurrection. It earned $4.2 million.
