Donald Trump: ‘SNL’ Ratings Were “The Best”
Donald Trump was quick to announce Sunday morning that the “Saturday Night Live” ratings for the show he hosted just hours before were “great” and “the best since 2011.” He tweeted, “Television ratings for @nbcsnl Saturday Night Live just came out and they were great – the best since 2011. Very few protesters!”
As Gossip Cop reported, Trump’s hosting gig was met with opposition by those who feel the GOP presidential candidate is a “racist” after having made remarks when announcing his candidacy that many Mexican illegals in the U.S. are “rapists” and “criminals.” Outside of the NBC headquarters at 30 Rockefeller Center in New York, a few hundred protestors gathered before “SNL” to express their outrage over Trump having been asked to host the sketch comedy show.
But Trump delivered “Saturday Night Live” its best ratings in close to five years. The last time the show had such high viewership was when Charles Barkley hosted “SNL” with Kelly Clarkson in January 2011, with the lead-in of an NFL playoff game. In fact, Trump’s ratings were around 47 percent higher than this season’s opener with Miley Cyrus, which featured a well-publicized appearance by Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton. Trump has yet to comment on his ratings trouncing Clinton’s.
In addition to Trump being called a “racist” by Larry David and mocking Rosie O’Donnell and “SNL” impersonators during his monologue, he also did a sketch in which “President Trump” was in the White House’s Oval Office, meeting with his cabinet. Trump also hilariously live tweeted disparaging remarks about “Saturday Night Live” cast members in a skit in which he did not appear.
