Donald Trump Did NOT Respond To Kanye West Speech, Despite Report
A headline from VH1.com reads, “Donald Trump Responds to Kanye West in the Most Trump Way.” It says in the accompanying story, “Everyone seems to want the old Kanye back besides one person, Donald Trump. Early Friday (11/18), Kanye West infuriated the Internet after revealing he would’ve voted for Trump, had he voted. Well Trump caught wind of Ye’s rant and responded in typical Trump fashion.”
The site then claims that, “during a rally,” Trump said, “I’ll never say bad about him. You want to know why? Because he loves Trump. He goes around saying Trump is my all-time hero. So to Kanye West, I love him. In a few years I might have to run against him, so I’ll take that back.”
Trump is further quoted as saying, “But he’s been so nice to me. You people saw the scene. I’ve been a counterpuncher. I only hit people when they hit me. Kanye West has been so great. I would never say bad about him because he says such nice things about me.”
VH1 even urges readers, “Watch Donald Trump’s response to Kanye below and let us know what you think.” There’s just one problem. Trump said these things in September 2015, more than a year ago. The “rally” in which these remarks were made took place just days after West’s infamous VMAs speech, when he said he wanted to run for president in 2020.
THAT was what Trump, who was then campaigning for the Republican nomination, was responding to. Now fast-forward to the present day, November of 2016. Trump hasn’t held a rally since election night, which means VH1 is ignorantly or duplicitously trying to pass off the old footage as new. In either case, the bottom line remains the same: Trump has NOT responded to West saying he would’ve voted for him.
