Donald Trump Press Conference Video
President-elect Donald Trump gave a long-awaited press conference at Trump Tower on Wednesday. Watch below.
Trump’s formal time in front of the press marked the first time he held a press conference since last July. Typically, newly-elected presidents hold such Q&As within days of the election. But the incoming Commander-in-Chief opted to wait roughly two months, with today’s event coming just nine days before the inauguration.
Following remarks from Trump’s press secretary Sean Spicer and vice president-elect Mike Pence, Trump thanked “a lot of the news organizations here today” for doubting Tuesday night’s leak about alleged Russian intelligence, even though “some of whom have not treated me well over the years.” Trump then touted some “good news,” specifically referencing job creation and military work on the F-35. He also noted there will be “tremendous talent” at the upcoming “beautiful” inauguration. “It’s a movement like the world has never seen before,” Trump said.
Of course, the real purpose of this press conference was to face queries from the media. Unsurprisingly, the first question was about the intelligence memos, which he deemed “fake news” and “crap.” He acknowledged Russia may have hacked the U.S., but said, “I think we also get hacked by other people.” And, of the DNC hacking, he even touted, “Look what we learned from the hacking” about Hillary Clinton.
“If Putin likes Donald Trump, I think that’s an asset,” Trump went on to say. “Do you really believe Hillary would be tougher on Putin than me?… Give me a break!” He also pointed out that he’s a “germaphobe,” seemingly to counter the “golden shower” allegations. Trump went on to once again refuse to release his tax returns, insisting Americans don’t care about that. Instead, he flaunted files of paperwork that he claimed was proof that he is separating himself from potential conflicts of interest.
After an extended speech from an attorney, Trump returned to taking questions, and insisted, “We have one of the cabinets ever put together.” In response to another query, he exclaimed, “Finally, Obamacare — I thought it was never going to be asked!” Trump vowed to “repeal and replace,” and insisted his healthcare will not only be less expensive, but simply “better.”
Trump was also asked about his “Nazi Germany” comment from earlier in the day, and his plans for a border wall. He again insisted “Mexico will pay,” reimbursing the U.S. for supposedly getting the project started. There was also a brief dustup between Trump and an apparent CNN reporter, who wanted to ask a question after he ripped the outlet.
Shortly after, Trump wrapped up after less than an hour on stage. Check out full video of Trump’s press conference below. And click to see celebrity reaction to the press conference.
