Adam Silver SLAMS Donald Sterling Over Comments About Magic Johnson (VIDEO)
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has issued a statement apologizing to Magic Johnson on behalf of the league after Donald Sterling made offensive remarks about Johnson and AIDS in his bizarre, combative interview with Anderson Cooper. Speaking with Cooper, the disgraced Los Angeles Clippers owner slammed Johnson for being a poor role model who contracted AIDS and hasn’t helped anyone (see below).
“I think he should be ashamed of himself,” Sterling said of Johnson. “I think he should go into the background. But what does he do for the black people? He doesn’t do anything.” He also implied that Johnson knew V. Stiviano, the woman whose recordings of Sterling led to his downfall, and had supposedly promised to help Sterling sweep everything under the rug.
On Tuesday, Silver blasted Sterling:
I just read a transcript of Donald Sterling’s interview with Anderson Cooper, and while Magic Johnson doesn’t need me to, I feel compelled on behalf of the NBA family to apologize to him that he continues to be dragged into this situation and be degraded by such a malicious and personal attack.
The NBA Board of Governors is continuing with its process to remove Mr. Sterling as expeditiously as possible.
