Don McLean’s Wife Patrisha Gets Restraining Order Following Domestic Violence Arrest
Don McLean’s wife Patrisha obtained a restraining order from her husband on Thursday following an incident earlier this week in which the “American Pie” singer was arrested for allegedly attacking her.
As Gossip Cop reported, McLean was arrested for domestic violence assault in Camden, Maine on Monday after police received a call from the singer’s wife, who claimed he tormented her for several hours, squeezed her head with excessive force, and ultimately threatened to strangle her to death.
McLean was transported, at the time, to Knox County Jail, where he was booked and charged with a misdemeanor. The singer was released shortly after posting $10,000 bail, and is now scheduled to appear in Knox County District Court in Rockland on February 22.
In Patrisha’s court filing, she said this latest incident wasn’t the first time McLean physically assaulted her. She also maintained that he’s threatened to kill her with a gun in the past, and has been verbally abusive. The singer has now been ordered to stay away from his wife, whom he’s been married to for 30 years.
McLean’s claim to fame is his 1971 hit “American Pie,” which is considered to be one of the all-time classics. The eight-minute track has the distinction of being the longest song to reach number one on the Billboard charts, and has been covered by a number of performers throughout the years.
UPDATE: McLean has released his first statement following his domestic violence arrest. On Thursday, the singer broke his silence via Twitter to address the situation. He wrote:
“This last year and especially now have been hard emotional times for my wife my children and me. What is occurring is the very painful breakdown of an almost 30 year relationship. Our hearts are broken and we must carry on. There are no winners or losers but I am not a villain. I may never recover from this but I will try and hope to continue to entertain you all as I always have. I ask God to give us the strength to find new happiness and I hope people will realize that this will all be resolved but I hope I will not be judged in this frantic media environment.”
