Don Cheadle: I Wanted To Pull A “Kanye” When Taylor Swift Won Album Of The Year Grammy
Don Cheadle tweeted after the Grammy Awards on Monday night that he almost pulled a “Kanye” when Taylor Swift won Album of The Year over Kendrick Lamar.
Swift’s 1989 took home the award for Album of the Year, but Cheadle is clearly a bigger fan of Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly, as the actor wrote, “I almost Kanyed tonight. #Restraint #Temperance @kendricklamar #AlbumoftheYear !!!!” Cheadle, who was in attendance at the awards show, is of course referring to West infamously interrupting Swift in the middle of her acceptance speech for Best Female Video at the 2009 MTV VMA’s, and declaring that Beyonce should have won.
Many of Cheadle’s followers subsequently bashed the actor for putting down Swift, and seemingly supporting West, especially in light of the new feud that’s erupted after the release of West’s new track “Famous,” in which he raps, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that bitch famous.” But Cheadle went on to clarify, “Tweeps, I’m not a Taylor hater. I think Kendrick’s album is stronger and more deserving. That’s all. My opinion.”
As Gossip Cop reported, Swift’s latest Grammy win made her the first woman to win Album of the Year twice. During her acceptance speech, she seemingly hit back at West and his “Famous” lyrics. Swift dedicated her Grammys speech to “all the young women out there,” and implored them not to let other people “undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.”
