Dolly Parton CMA Awards Tribute Video: Watch CMAs Lifetime Achievement Award Speech
Dolly Parton was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 CMA Awards on Wednesday. Check out the video below!
The Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award was first introduced in 2012 and bestowed upon Nelson himself. In 2013, it was awarded to Kenny Rodgers, and Johnny Cash was a posthumous honoree in 2015. Parton is now only the fourth star, and the first woman, to earn the award.
According to the Country Music Association, the Lifetime Achievement Award is “for an iconic artist who has attained the highest degree of recognition in country music.” It’s reserved for those who have “achieved both national and international prominence and stature through concert performances, humanitarian efforts, philanthropy, record sales, and public representation at the highest level.”
Parton, who has won nine CMAs over the course of her decades-long career, was named Entertainer of the Year back in 1978. At tonight’s ceremony, she was treated to an introduction from Lily Tomlin and an all-star tribute performance in her honor. That included Jennifer Nettles singing “Jolene” with Pentatonix and Reba McEntire doing “9 To 5.”
The tribute also, of course, featured “I Will Always Love You,” which was reworked earlier this year into “Forever Country,” a mashup of three songs sung by 30 country artists to celebrate 50 years of the CMA Awards. Now, following the special performance, Parton herself went on stage to give an acceptance speech. Watch full video below!
