Mirrors don’t lie! If you don’t like what you see – do something about it! Smashing the mirror will not change the image. It actually will only make it more difficult to see the image correctly whenever you look into again. Choosing not to ever look into it again, doesn’t make it go away either. It’s still there – you are just pretending it isn’t, or worse – you envision in your own mind how you want it to look. Too long, we as a society have covered up, rewritten, rationalized, and closed the doors to the “ugliness” of the the horrific acts we inflict upon each other. We must “take our head out of the sand”, so to speak, and face the atrocities that plague our society today.

We know that mirrors only expose the surface. They are reflecting the result of the life choices. One must dig deeper and question those choices and actions that brought us to this point. Why do we look that way? Some people are shocked because this is the first time they have been forced to look at themselves. They don’t like what they see.

On the other end of the pendulum, are those that are always looking into that reflection, They, in a sense are never in the real world, becoming detached to reality. They become immuned to the shock of the image. The blood and gore no longer has the negative affect that is needed to evoke change in a positive way. As a result, that horrible image becomes their world and more accepted. That is where the danger lies. It changes our perception of what is “horrible”. Our shock level gets raised to a higher position on the bar. It changes our definition of positive and negative, good and evil, wrong and right. Those things don’t change.
If we tell someone a lie, it’s still a lie, no matter how much we try to rationalize it.
We know it’s wrong. We are choosing to be the person we are.

Brilliant. Now, if you excuse me, I’m off to go see Die Hard with an Erection, or whatever it is called.
