Disney Putting 4 Animated Classics Back Into Theaters After Lion King Success

Truth rating: 10

(Disney)

The massively successful theatrical re-release of The Lion King in 3D has led Disney to announce that four more modern animation classics will return to theaters over the next two years.

Beauty and the Beast is slated to be given the 3D treatment in January, to be followed by Finding Nemo next September, Monsters Inc. in January 2013 and The Little Mermaid in September 2013.

Like The Lion KingBeauty and Mermaid were part of the hand-drawn revival of the late 1980s and 1990s. Nemo and Monsters were major Pixar hits a decade later.

Back in theaters last month after a 17-year absence, The Lion King stunned Hollywood by winning back-to-back weekends at the box office.

Which re-release are you most excited about?

And which Disney movie would you like to see added to the list?

I’m looking forward to Beauty and the Beast and Finding Nemo. However, I think they should just release the Disney-made classics, not the Pixar films they own. Just an opinion.

While I’m excited for Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid, I wish they would have chosen movies like Peter Pan, Aladdin, 101 Dalmatians, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, etc. over Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo. Not that those movies aren’t great, because they are, but I guess I would like to see older classics played in the theaters.

i’m excited for beauty and the beast and little mermaid! i wish they would’ve chosen peter pan and cinderella over finding nemo and monsters inc…. those are pixar classics they can re release in another 10 or so years.

I’m psyched for The Little Mermaid, but I’m quite disappointed they chose Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc instead of Aladdin. Why did Aladdin get the shaft? You have Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King…you forgot one, people!
