Disney Putting 4 Animated Classics Back Into Theaters After Lion King Success
3:57 pm, October 4th, 2011
The massively successful theatrical re-release of The Lion King in 3D has led Disney to announce that four more modern animation classics will return to theaters over the next two years.
Beauty and the Beast is slated to be given the 3D treatment in January, to be followed by Finding Nemo next September, Monsters Inc. in January 2013 and The Little Mermaid in September 2013.
Like The Lion King, Beauty and Mermaid were part of the hand-drawn revival of the late 1980s and 1990s. Nemo and Monsters were major Pixar hits a decade later.
Back in theaters last month after a 17-year absence, The Lion King stunned Hollywood by winning back-to-back weekends at the box office.
Which re-release are you most excited about?
