Diplo: Taylor Swift Fans “Threatened To Murder Me,” Are “Worst People In World”
Diplo addresses his feud with Taylor Swift in a new GQ interview for the magazine’s February music-themed issue. As Gossip Cop reported, barbs were traded online last fall after the deejay mocked the superstar’s body, and her close pal Lorde called Diplo out for his “tiny penis.”
The musician continued to take jabs at Swift and her fans, and fired back at Lorde as well, even though they had recently collaborated together. At the time, there was speculation that Diplo’s motivation was his then-girlfriend Katy Perry, who was said to have her own beef with Swift. Now Diplo claims in his new Q&A that the Twitter exchanges were all done “in jest,” and blames the media for allegedly blowing things out of proportion, but then makes pointed comments about both Swift and her fans.
“It’s really dumb. So many great albums came out that week, and all people talked about, on all the big press, was Me vs. Lorde, and Kim Kardashian’s butt. No one covered any music,” Diplo complains when first asked about the situation. “And it’s funny, because me and Lorde, we’re actually friends, and it was a funny, in-jest conversation. So many tabloids used it to make it story, when it was not. Literally, it was such a tongue-in-cheek joke on both sides. I think Taylor Swift is such an impactful character, that it was because she was involved that it became really big.”
Diplo goes on to say, “The repercussions are really bad. Like, Taylor Swift fans are really crazy. They threatened to murder me and stuff. It’s really bizarre, and disgusting. They’re the worst people in the world.” The EDM star, who calls himself a “pretty big fan” of Swift, deems her supporters “evil,” and alleges they tweeted him things like, “I wish your kids had Down syndrome.” He tells GQ, “I dissed Lady Gaga before, and the gays were never even this mean. They’re funny. These people are like mean-spirited, evil human beings. I’m not a politician. I shouldn’t have to be under the microscope for people like that.”
And though Diplo claims he wants to “bring out positivity” and reiterates that he’s a Swift “fan,” he still throws in a little shade. “Her powers — she’s big. She’s strong, bro. Taylor Swift is very strategic with her friends and enemies,” he says. “And I know lots of secrets. I can’t divulge, but I know a lot of stuff about her. And I’m scared. I’m scared for my life.” What do you think of Diplo’s latest comments?
