Diddy, Howard University Dropout, Named School’s Commencement Speaker Amid Outrage
Diddy has been announced as Howard University’s commencement speaker — and it’s triggered controversy.
On Tuesday, the institution revealed that the rap mogul would address this year’s graduating class at the college in Washington, D.C., a choice that critics are blasting since Diddy dropped out of Howard after two years in 1990.
The performer and producer, of course, became one of hip-hop’s most successful entrepreneurs.
But some observers, including many Howard students on Twitter, expressed disappointment that Diddy was given the honor of speaking at commencement after abandoning his own pursuit of a degree.
Previous speakers at the school’s graduating ceremony have included Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Colin Powell and Maya Angelou.
What do you think of Howard selecting Diddy for this year’s speech?
