Busting bad dish!

Did Robert Pattinson give the Daily Record an “Interview”?

(GettyImages.com)

Two things are for certain:

(1) There is audio of Robert Pattinson discussing sex scenes in “Bel Ami.”

(2) He most assuredly did not grant the Daily Record an interview.

Here is what happened.

Yes, there’s audio of Pattinson, but he didn’t tell the Daily Record, “The sex scenes with Uma are kind of disturbing.”

The full audio, recorded at a recent roundtable discussion with several journalists in London, has Pattinson saying that his character and Uma Thurman’s marry about two-thirds of the way into “Bel Ami,” and “the sex scenes with Uma… if they, if they work out how they are in the script… they’d be like kind of disturbing in a way.”

It’s important to note, though, that the printed comment alters the sequence and wording of Pattinson’s comments.

It’s equally important to Gossip Cop that Pattinson was not interviewed by the Daily Record, and the paper was not among the approved outlets at the roundtable.

When Gossip Cop asked about the circumstances surrounding the audio, one editor at the paper said he was “unaware” if the person who furnished the tab with the audio identified himself as a reporter for the Daily Record. And another editor said whether the writer “identified himself as representing the Daily Record” was “immaterial.”

But it’s not immaterial. Especially since the Daily Record wasn’t an approved media outlet.

The paper was able to print Pattinson’s words (while no other outlet at the roundtable did) because, not having been identified as a participant, the Daily Record did not abide by certain restrictions.

And since it was not an approved outlet, that’s why a Pattinson source told Gossip Cop - correctly – that the star “never spoke to the [Scottish] Daily Record.”

Even Pattinson, according to the source, didn’t know he was being taped by someone who was going to later supply the Daily Record with the (edited) quotes.

So, at the end of the day… yeah, Pattinson said some of what the paper claims — though not word for word, according to the audio — but he had absolutely no idea he was being “interviewed” by the Daily Record.

    Rob really needs a pr manager.

  • lilylily

    Gossip Cop, you sure spend a lot of time running down rumors about Pattinson. Is his management paying you for your services? Really, this post is just nitpicking to death. So what if he said it or didn’t say it. This guy needs a full time publicist because apparently his management is having trouble creating and sustaining his image.

  • michelle

    lilylily, the report alot on Rob because he is the hottest thing out there and everyday there seems to be something to debunk.

    On a side note, I did post a comment on the daily record saying GC debunked the story and went back a little later and noticed you couldn’t post or see comments on that story.

    I read the script and I like his choice for this movie and character. It is not an easy one and George in Bel Ami is not a likeable person. But it is a risky choice. After reading the script I still can’t really figure out the characters and their dynamics. It is a book perfect for a discussion with college students. And I wouldn’t use the word disturbing in relation to the sex with Madeleine (played by Uma), she is just not interested in him, without a man at her side she simple wouldn’t be able to be part of the business she wants to be. As I said it is such an interesting story but I find it difficult to really figure out the script, may not easy to get the story on screen. But the (female) cast is superb for the roles, so I am hoping for the best.

    But my fear is that most of the people will only talk about the sex scenes. Unfortunatly even if you look at the fan side for the film Bel Ami, they focus on the multiple sex scenes of Robert Pattinson, they don’t even discuss the story and the characters. And on other sites they are all over the moon that they see him finally making out and if you see only his butt or also the “sparkle peen”. That said the tabs can easily turn it into a Pattinsonporn. Maybe it is just a matter of timing, right now many of Robert Pattinsons fans seem to not have their hormons under control.

    So the discussion about this interview or round table shows how sensitive the issue is. His managment is obviously already on high alert . Maybe Mr. Pattinson should talk more about the character instead of sex scenes. It can be a really great movie.

    Lily, they post a lot on Rob because they know that his fans are easy hits for their website.

  • Sam

    Sounds like someone’s jealous, Dawn. Seriously, who should they write about, Stephen Colbert? RPattz is HUGE. When someone’s on the cover of Vanity Fair, Harper’s Bazaar, Details and a half dozen other major magazines – in just the past four months – it wouldn’t make sense not to write about him. Even Perez writes about him every day because, as Michelle said, he’s the “hottest thing out there.” Watch, they’ll write a story about Stephen Colbert and you’ll find fault with that too, saying no one cares about him.

    No. I wouldn’t find fault with a story about Stephen Colbert because unlike Rob, he is actually talented.

    It is kind of funny the commenters say that Gossip cop responds to Pattinson reports to get easy hits from his fans. From what I have read, it seems the “nonfans” are more obsessive about hitting on Pattinson reports than fans.

  • Bouffant

    The Daily Record come off looking unprofessional here – but do they care? If they pulled this stunt, I’m guessing respectability is not a high priority for them. The whole tawdry story highlights how hot Rob is right now, and how desperate media outlets are to report on him.

    Daily Record: FAIL

    Rob Pattinson: BIG WIN

  • Maguilita

    UNCOOL! Dodging restrictions/agreements much?… That sure as hell says something about your ethic behavior… FAIL! That would only make him not saying a single word, and all his answers will be kind of the same… the spontaneity of his answers will be lost… that’s one of the best things about him… losing it will be a shame!

    Even me, whose MT is not English, know that “The sex scenes with Uma are kind of disturbing.” has a different sense than “the sex scenes with Uma… if they, if they work out how they are in the script… they’d be like kind of disturbing IN A WAY.”… I mean, wouldn’t you, if within 2 years passed from actor to huge super stardom, find “disturbing in a way” pretend to have sex with a star like Uma is? and I mean, those Bel Ami sex scenes… ’cause it is WOW!… (if it’s like the book, which I’ve heard is)…
    However, good they didn’t say “Sex with Uma is disturbing”… ’cause we know that it will (probably) get to that point…

    @Dawn Marie
    “No. I wouldn’t find fault with a story about Stephen Colbert because unlike Rob, he is actually talented.”… So, he was considered talented since the beginning?… *roll eyes*… Pattinson is a good actor… and what he doesn’t have yet, gets acknowledged by experience which is the point of him making different movies with way too different roles to interpret… get it?

    @Georgeann Davis
    “it seems the “nonfans” are more obsessive about hitting on Pattinson reports than fans.”
    You got that right!

    Thanks GC! :D… You certainly took the time to really look into it… Thanks for the complete information… :)
    *thumbs up*

  • Hard Hearted Hannah

    lilylily, I want to know about Pattinson, every single detail so…Thank You GC!!!!

  • Hard Hearted Hannah

    @Penelope.

    I agree with you. Bel Ami is a great book, I lament that people are only interested in porn.

    Pd. good point Bouffant.

  • NLL

    This is so NOT COOL, and yet, how refreshing honest of Rob (and/or his team) to come forward with a clarification of the entire truth. The fact is that Rob is just such hot property at the moment that every media outlet is clawing to get anything they can on him to sell/get hits….regardless of whether or not he has a PR person on his team or not. I’ll refrain from telling him what I think he should do, as I think, given the insanity of the last 2+ years, he has handled himself remarkably well. He has a very firm handle on the work/life balance and seems to be making good decisions generally – he can’t be held responsible for the insanity that is popular culture, aided and abetted by the internet. And whatever decisions he makes, he makes them with a full knowledge of his (and Kristen’s) current and future ‘situations’ – which is something those of us who observe are not privvy to. So Rob, just keep doing what you are doing mate!

    KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

    I understand that you’re pissed because Daily Record challenged you, but come on.. this is petty. You don’t know how many articles I have read that supposedly ‘quoted’ a star when in actuality, it was ANOTHER interviewer that did the actual interview? All the other articles are just repeating what the original was saying – and sometimes ad-libbed with their OWN speculations – and made it sound like THEY were the ones who interviewed the star. People? US? CNN? (and the list goes on)

    As for the recording… if it was a public speaking/outlet/interview, then they should have expected his words to be quoted. Hell, his FANS constantly record him with their cell phone and no one bitches about THAT. Id the Daily record wasn’t invited, then it’s Rob’s fault for not having a PR person to check each reporter.
