“Desperate Housewives” Cast Was “Not Completely” Shocked Series is Ending

“Desperate Housewives” will end after this season, ABC officially confirmed today.

“All good things eventually come to an end, and in the eighth and final season, the stakes for everyone on Wisteria Lane are at an all-time high,” the network said in a release.

The cast, including Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, and Eva Longoria, was “not completely” shocked about the series ending, said its creator Marc Cherry.

Cherry told the Television Critics Association’s session today, “I’ve spoken to over half of them. It was actually kind of bittersweet and lovely, because the women knew that it was a possibility, but they didn’t know [for sure], so there was a touch of shock, but not completely.”

    I’m not shocked or sad. The initial plan was for 7 Seasons and we got 8. And they are getting a proper final Season, so they can wrap things up the way they want to. That’s a luxury that many shows are not afforded. Some shows are pulled off the air immediately or told too late that they won’t be renewed, so doing a final episode is impossible.

    They get to plan the entire Final Season on their terms and end it with their vision. There is nothing to be sad or shocked about. They had an amazing run, 8 years is quite an achievement, and all things come to an end eventually.

    I’ve been a viewer since Episode 1 and will see it through to the end. It’s been an amazing ride, and now we can enjoy the final Season without having to worry about the ratings and knowing it’s the end.

    Very Shocked and very sad!! I love the series, and I think ABC is messing up by canceling it!! So very many people adore this show! The cast is hilarious, and the story line is always funny and great! It will be missed in this household!!

    Another good show bites the dust! I was shocked to hear the news and was hoping another network would pick it up. Desperate Housewives should have run longer than the 8 seasons. I feel like I am loosing a close friend as I have watched every show since it began; it has provided a good laugh for one hour; a fun escape. Everything has to end sometime, true, so I have decided to cancel my TV subscription right after the last show as it will be a good time to make a change and stop with the disappointments of TV. Besides, there are far too many commercials, shows that are suddenly not running in the middle of a current season, a station suddenly blocked from viewing etc etc and we pay a monthly high price for this.
